Developed by Booking.com in collaboration with UN Tourism, this course titled ‘Your journey to more sustainable energy management’ is part of a four-course series on discovering a more sustainable approach to hospitality. The objective of this course is for you to learn about and practice a holistic and more sustainable way of calculating and managing your water consumption.

This course consists of five modules that will guide you through concepts such as water stewardship, water footprint and water reusing, industry best practices such as rainwater harvesting and water-efficient technologies, and practical examples for accommodations around the world.
If you are interested in gaining fundamental knowledge on how to apply a more sustainable approach to your accommodation management, we invite you to take the other three courses in this series, which are also available on the Tourism Online Academy.

Professor of Professor of Sustainability Marketing at the University of Surrey

Xavier is a professor, researcher and consultant specializing in sustainable tourism production and consumption. With expert knowledge on everything from sustainable tourism certification to sustainability marketing and policies, his work has been widely published. He serves as an advisor in the Travalyst coalition, where he uses his research experience to inform efforts and help stakeholders align on sustainability frameworks for the supply chain of the tourism sector.

Piet is an ERM Technical Director with 20 years of professional EHS consulting experience. Based in Antwerp (Belgium), he works for major industrial clients with focus on integrated water management and project finance. Piet has a strong background in auditing, transaction services, portfolio liability management and EEHS management systems. Being an AWS certified water expert, he helps industrial clients in managing their water risks and implementing water stewardship programs. He supports the industry implementing their sustainability objectives on water, from water strategy development over water risk assessments to the co-creation of context based targets in close collaboration with the wider stakeholders.
